" /* /* [Logout] I have heard of an ancient way of torture to get information out of a prisoner ect.. The method goes like this: plant some bamboo plants, let them grow and then cut them down so they are almost level with the ground, place prisoner ontop of the plants and strap him down with wooden spikes and rope. The myth is that the bamboo grows at a very fast rate ( 3-4ft a day) and starts impaling the prisoner inducing enourmous pain and suffering. I would just want to know if bamboo could grow well enough and strong enough under a human to grow "through" him. " [3]

" /* /* [Logout] It is rumored that an ancient form of Chinese torture was Bamboo Torture. They would tie you down, cut a drastic point onto the end of a bamboo sapling, point it at a fleshy part of your body, and let it grow through you. It is rumored they used Bambusa oldhamii which is also known as Oldham's bamboo, or giant timber. This type of bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, and can grow up to 4 ft. in a day. . . What do you say? Is this stuff strong enough to go through someone? If so, did the Chinese use this form of torture?. . Floracion: Chinese Bamboo Torture
" I learned once (I can't remember how or why so don't ask) that bamboo has been used in the Chinese culture as a tool of torture. One particularly painful form of torture involves placing shoots of bamboo underneath the victim's fingernails. As the bamboo grows, pain ensues. This sounds pretty painful. However, I think I have brilliantly discovered an equally painful alternative method that can be used should bamboo not be readily available. Instead of putting bamboo under the fingernails, torturers should put acrylic on the finger nails, allow them to dry for a week or so and then have the prisoners rip them off without the aid of any useful tools. " posted A coworker of mine, upon seeing my small pot of good luck bamboo, shared with me a story that her friend from Nepal had told her about bamboo. Apparently, he said that they would torture people by tying someone down over a piece of bamboo, and letting the bamboo grow through them. Apparently bamboo grows so fast in tropical climates, that it would actually grow through people, breaking their spine, etc. Seems doubtful to me, but what do I know about Nepalese bamboo torture? A google search on bamboo and torture dredged up links on bamboo under the fingernails, and impaling people on spikes made of bamboo, but nothing that specifically referenced the bamboo growing through people.---" [13]

Torture: the next new American way - Opinion
" But with all the hubbub surrounding the issue, you have to wonder: What's the big deal? Does it really matter whether the United States has the right to torture anyone and everyone it thinks might have a bomb or a mustache and turban? Perhaps if George Washington was still alive, he'd have something to say. Fortunately, he's not. It's no secret that right now America, the country ol' Wussy Washington managed not to run into the ground, is embroiled in a new kind of war. A war so different, it's changing the rules and finally eliminating the out-dated drudgery of "principles" and "moral standards." Instead of turning away from torture in disgust as some freedom-haters are prone to do, I think the American people should be giving torture the embrace it has long deserved. For too long, a vocal minority of extremists has been focusing our attention" [16]

No matter what he did - hacking, digging, poisoning, depriving it of water; this thing just couldn't be killed - in fact each attempt seemed to make it say "in your face, sucker!" and only spurred it on. . .
